Gaumukh Trek: A 4-Day Itinerary for October 2023

  1. Day 1: Reach Gangotri
    20 minutes (6 miles) from Harsil

    In the morning, reach Gangotri by car or bus. After checking into your hotel, take a walk around the small town and visit Gangotri Temple. In the evening, enjoy the local food and street markets.

  2. Day 2: Gangotri to Bhojwasa
    5-6 hours (14 miles) trek from Gangotri

    Start early in the morning from Gangotri and undertake a beautiful trek to Bhojwasa. On the way, freshen up at Chirbasa and enjoy the stunning views of the Bhagirathi peaks. In the evening, relax at Bhojwasa and enjoy the mesmerizing views of the Gangotri glacier.

  3. Day 3: Bhojwasa to Gaumukh and Back
    8-9 hours (12 miles) trek from Bhojwasa

    Start early in the morning and trek to Gaumukh, the source of the river Ganges. Take a dip in the icy cold water and witness the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, trek back to Bhojwasa for a night stay.

  4. Day 4: Bhojwasa to Gangotri
    4-5 hours (14 miles) trek to Gangotri

    Start early in the morning and trek back to Gangotri. You can visit the picturesque Harsil valley on the way back. In the evening, explore the local markets and enjoy the local delicacies.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day or two, you can visit the stunning Tapovan meadow or trek to Nandanvan. The enchanting Kedar Tal is only a short drive away from Gangotri and is a must-visit for nature lovers.
