Family-Friendly Itinerary for Ujjain in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahakaleshwar Temple
    5 minutes (0.5 miles) from the hotel

    In the morning, visit the Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and seek blessings from Lord Shiva. The temple is known for its unique Bhasma Aarti where ashes are used instead of flowers. In the afternoon, enjoy a family picnic at the scenic Kshipra River and indulge in some fun activities with your loved ones. In the evening, visit the Kalidas Academy and explore the works of the famous Indian poet and playwright, Kalidasa.

  2. Day 2: Bhartrihari Caves and Vedh Shala Observatory
    15 minutes (3 miles) from Mahakaleshwar Temple

    Begin the day by visiting the Bhartrihari Caves, which are said to be the meditation place of the great philosopher, Bhartrihari. The caves are located on the banks of the Shipra river and offer a serene and beautiful view. In the afternoon, explore the Vedh Shala Observatory, one of the oldest observatories in India. Witness the amazing astronomical instruments used by ancient Indian astronomers and learn about the history of astronomy in India. In the evening, visit the Triveni Museum and explore the rich cultural heritage of Ujjain.

  3. Day 3: Sandipani Ashram and Ram Ghat
    20 minutes (4 miles) from Vedh Shala Observatory

    On the last day, visit the Sandipani Ashram, where Lord Krishna and Sudama are said to have studied together. Take a tour of the ashram and learn about the ancient Gurukul system of education. In the afternoon, visit the Ram Ghat and take a holy dip in the Kshipra river. The ghat is also a great place to watch the beautiful sunset. In the evening, visit the Nanakheda market and indulge in some local shopping and food.
