3-Day Adventure Itinerary in Wayanadu - July 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    20 minutes (8.6 miles) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Start your first day in Wayanadu with a challenging hike to the top of Chembra Peak. The trek takes around 3 hours and is steep in some parts, but the view from the summit is worth it. You can also visit the heart-shaped Chembra Lake on the way down.
    Afternoon: Head to Soochipara Falls for a refreshing swim and a picnic lunch. The falls are surrounded by lush greenery and offer a serene atmosphere.
    Evening: Spend your evening at the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with ancient rock art. The hike up to the caves takes around 45 minutes and can be challenging, but the view from the top is breathtaking.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    30 minutes (14.5 miles) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. You can take a boat ride, go trekking or zipline across the dam.
    Afternoon: Head to the Kuruva Island, a beautiful river delta with dense forests and diverse flora and fauna. You can take a dip in the river or go for a nature walk.
    Evening: Visit the Thirunelli Temple, a 3000-year-old Hindu temple located in the midst of mountains and forests. The temple is famous for its ancient architecture and is a popular pilgrimage site.

  3. Day 3: Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
    45 minutes (20.7 miles) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Start your day with a jeep safari at the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife including elephants, tigers and leopards. You can also go trekking or birdwatching.
    Afternoon: Visit the Meenmutty Falls, a three-tiered waterfall surrounded by dense forests and rocky cliffs. The hike to the falls is challenging but the view is worth it.
    Evening: End your day with a visit to the Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake surrounded by hills and forests. You can take a boat ride and enjoy the serene surroundings.

Recommendations

Don't miss out on the Wayanad Bamboo Festival if you're visiting in July. You can also take a day trip to the nearby city of Mysore to visit the Mysore Palace and the Brindavan Gardens. If you have extra time, consider visiting the Silent Valley National Park or the Bandipur National Park.
