3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Wayanadu in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (9.8 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with a trek to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanadu. The trek is around 4 km and takes about 3-4 hours. Enjoy the scenic views of tea plantations and lush green forests on the way. After the trek, head to Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake. You can take a 30-minute pedal boat ride and spot some fish and birds. End your day at Soochipara Waterfalls, which is a 3-tiered waterfall cascading from a height of 200 meters. You can take a dip in the pool at the bottom of the waterfall.

  2. Day 2: Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 10 minutes (25.3 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with a visit to Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to various wildlife species like elephants, tigers, leopards, and bears. You can take a 3-hour jeep safari and spot some animals in their natural habitat. After the safari, head to Edakkal Caves, which are natural caves formed by boulders. You need to trek around 1.5 km uphill to reach the caves, but the view from the top is worth it. End your day with a visit to Karapuzha Dam, which is an earth-fill dam and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding hills.

  3. Day 3: Banasura Sagar Dam
    50 minutes (19.3 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with a visit to Banasura Sagar Dam, which is the largest earthen dam in India. You can take a 20-minute speedboat ride and enjoy the view of the surrounding hills and islands. After the boat ride, head to Meenmutty Waterfalls, which is a 3-tiered waterfall cascading from a height of 300 meters. You need to trek around 2 km to reach the waterfall, but the view is spectacular. End your day with a visit to Kuruva Island, which is a river island formed by the Kabini river. You can take a walk on the bamboo bridges and spot some rare birds and butterflies.
