Ladakh Motorcycle Riding Itinerary - June 2023

  1. Day 1: Leh Palace
    10 minutes (3.1 km) from Leh

    In the morning, visit the Leh Palace, a nine-story palace built in the 17th century by King Sengge Namgyal. Admire the panoramic view of Leh from the palace's rooftop. In the afternoon, visit the Shanti Stupa, a white-domed Buddhist stupa built to promote world peace, and watch the sunset from there. In the evening, explore the Leh Bazaar, a market filled with local handicrafts, jewelry, and souvenirs.

  2. Day 2: Khardung La Pass
    2 hours (40 km) from Leh

    In the morning, ride to Khardung La Pass, the world's highest motorable pass at 18,380 feet. Take in the stunning views of the Himalayas and the Nubra Valley. In the afternoon, visit the Diskit Monastery, the largest and oldest Buddhist monastery in the Nubra Valley, and see the 106-foot statue of Maitreya Buddha. Spend the evening relaxing at the Sand Dunes in Hunder and enjoy a camel ride.

  3. Day 3: Pangong Tso Lake
    4.5 hours (155 km) from Leh

    Ride to Pangong Tso Lake, a high-altitude lake famous for its changing colors and appearance in different seasons. Take a dip in the icy cold water or go for a boat ride. Spend the afternoon admiring the beauty of the lake and click some amazing photos. In the evening, return to Leh and enjoy a local Ladakhi dinner.

  4. Day 4: Magnetic Hill and Gurudwara Pathar Sahib
    1 hour 20 minutes (35 km) from Leh

    In the morning, ride to Magnetic Hill, an optical illusion that makes cars appear to roll uphill. Take a photo with your motorcycle at this unique spot. In the afternoon, visit the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, a beautiful Sikh temple built in honor of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Listen to the mesmerizing prayers and learn about the history of the temple. In the evening, ride back to Leh and enjoy a local dinner.

  5. Day 5: Zanskar River Rafting
    2 hours (40 km) from Leh

    In the morning, ride to the Zanskar River and go for a thrilling rafting experience. Paddle through the Zanskar Canyon and enjoy the breathtaking views of the river and the surrounding mountains. Spend the afternoon exploring the nearby villages and interacting with the locals. In the evening, ride back to Leh and enjoy a farewell dinner.

Recommendations

If you have additional time, consider visiting the Hemis Monastery, the Thiksey Monastery, and the Alchi Monastery. You can also take a side trip to the Nubra Valley and stay overnight in a campsite to experience Ladakhi culture. To maximize your fun, rent a motorcycle and ride to different places, but make sure to wear appropriate gear and follow traffic rules.
