Two-Day Itinerary for City Experiences in Mumbai, July 2023

  1. Day 1: Gateway of India
11 minutes (2.9 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

Morning: Start your day at the iconic Gateway of India, a must-visit tourist attraction that overlooks the Arabian Sea. Built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Mumbai, it is a perfect spot for taking pictures and enjoying the sea breeze.

Afternoon: Head to Colaba Causeway, a bustling street market that offers a wide variety of goods, including clothes, accessories, and souvenirs. Bargaining is a must here, so brush up on your haggling skills. Make sure to try some local street food, such as vada pav or pav bhaji.

Evening: Visit Marine Drive, also known as the Queen's Necklace because of the way the streetlights resemble a string of pearls. You can take a leisurely stroll along the promenade while watching the sunset, or enjoy a cup of chai from one of the many vendors along the way.

  2. Day 2: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya
8 minutes (2.3 km) from Gateway of India

Morning: Explore the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum. The museum houses an impressive collection of art, artifacts, and natural history exhibits from India and other parts of the world.

Afternoon: Take a taxi to Haji Ali Dargah, a mosque located on an islet in the Arabian Sea. The mosque is connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway, which is submerged during high tide. The site is a popular pilgrimage destination for Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

Evening: End your day at Juhu Beach, a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. You can take a walk along the beach, try some local street food, or relax at one of the beachside cafes.

Recommendations

Other local attractions worth considering include the Elephanta Caves, Sanjay Gandhi National Park, and Crawford Market. If you have time, take a day trip to the hill station of Matheran or the ancient city of Ajanta and Ellora Caves. To maximize your fun, try taking a food tour or a street art tour of the city. Don't forget to try some authentic Maharashtrian cuisine and shop for souvenirs at local markets.
