Lonavla City Experience Itinerary in May 2023

  1. Day 1: Karla Caves
    20 minutes (5 miles) from Lonavla Railway Station

    Start your day exploring the ancient Karla caves, one of the largest complexes of rock-cut Buddhist shrines in India. The site dates back to the 2nd century BC and is home to intricate rock carvings and chaityas. In the morning, beat the crowds and take in the serene mountain views and lush greenery that surrounds the caves. Afterward, grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants nearby, serving authentic Maharashtrian cuisine. In the afternoon, head to the Bhaja Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located just 3 km away.

  2. Day 2: Lonavla Lake
    10 minutes (2 miles) from Karla Caves

    Start your day at Lonavla Lake, a serene spot ideal for a morning stroll or boat ride. Take in the tranquil surroundings, and grab a chai from the nearby stall. In the afternoon, explore the nearby Bhushi Dam, where you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the cool waters, surrounded by mountains.
