  • Day 1: Visit Senso-ji Temple
    10 minutes (1.3 miles) from Asakusa Station.

    The Senso-ji Temple is Tokyo's oldest and most popular spiritual site. The temple is well-known for its iconic Kaminarimon - a tall gate guarded by the thunder god and goddess.

  • Day 2: Spend the day in Odaiba
    25 minutes (5.5 miles) via Monorail from Hamamatsucho Station.

    Odaiba is an incredible man-made island that features a multitude of attractions such as the famous Venus Fort shopping center, Tokyo's famous teamlab Borderless digital museum, Oedo Onsen Monogatari- a hot spring theme park and the iconic giant Gundam statue, which gives visitors an incredible visual spectacle.

  • Day 3: Explore Harajuku and Shinjuku
    20 minutes (3.3 miles) via train from Shibuya Station.

    Harajuku is a mecca for all things cute, fashionable and trendy in Tokyo. From there, head to Shinjuku, Tokyo's bustling entertainment and business district for various activities such as visiting Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Golden Gai- a collection of narrow alleys hosting a variety of unique small bars, Samurai Museum or the Tokyo Opera City Cultural Center.

  • Day 4: Discover Ueno Park and the National Museum of Nature and Science
    10 minutes (1.3 miles) via train from Ueno Station.

    Ueno Park is a gem in the heart of Tokyo. The park provides a green space in the middle of the city, along with several cultural & historical places to visit. The National Museum of Nature and Science is a fantastic place to learn about ancient Japanese history and share in the excitement of scientific discoveries.

  • Day 5: Visit Meiji Jingu Shrine and Shibuya Crossing
    20 minutes (3 miles) via train from Tokyo Station.

    Meiji Jingu Shrine is a serene Shinto shrine located in a beautiful forest. Visitors will find peace walking under the towering trees while learning about the history behind this sacred place. Afterward, head to Shibuya crossing - Tokyo's busiest scramble crossing, known for its variety of shops, restaurants and popular photo spots.

Transportation:

Travelers can navigate Tokyo through public transportation such as the train or bus system. Japan Rail Pass allows discounted train travel across Japan. A prepaid Suica card or Pasmo card can be used to pay fares on subways, buses, and JR lines, with excellent discounts available with use of IC cards. A taxi is another alternative for rapid transportation, however, taxi fees can vary heavily depending on the time of day and distance travelled. Based on 2023 data, Travelers should anticipate around $15-$30 of transportation costs per day to get around the city.

Useful tips:

For those who have more time, it is recommended to visit Mount Fuji, which is located near Tokyo city by local bus, adding an extra day to the itinerary. Also, travelers may further explore Tokyo by visiting other neighborhoods such as Roppongi and Ginza. For those who have less time, prioritizing some of the most unique and exceptional places, such as Tokyo Skytree and Tsukiji Fishmarket are highly recommended to be added to the itinerary.

Airports:

Two main airports serve the Tokyo region: Narita International Airport (NRT) and Haneda International Airport (HND). Narita airport is located 60 km from Tokyo, and it takes about 90 minutes to reach the city centre via train, taxi or bus. Haneda airport is located 14km from central Tokyo, taking only around 30 minutes via train access. Haneda airport mostly serves domestic and regional flights.
