3-Day Itinerary near Harihara Fort in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Hampi
    20 minutes (12.6 km) from Harihara Fort

    In the morning, explore the ruins of Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the Virupaksha Temple, the oldest and the principal temple in Hampi dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the afternoon, head to the Lotus Mahal, a beautiful palace designed in the Indo-Islamic style. In the evening, witness the sunset at the Hemakuta Hill.

  2. Day 2: Tungabhadra Dam
    1 hour and 15 minutes (51.1 km) from Hampi

    Spend the morning at the Tungabhadra Dam, one of the largest dams in the world built across the Tungabhadra river. Enjoy the beautiful view of the dam and the surrounding hills. In the afternoon, head to the Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary, home to the Indian sloth bear. In the evening, drive to the Anjaneya Hill to witness the breathtaking sunset.

  3. Day 3: Badami
    1 hour and 30 minutes (73.6 km) from Tungabhadra Dam

    In the morning, visit the Badami Cave Temples, a complex of four rock-cut temples. These temples are a fine example of Badami Chalukya architecture and house some of the finest art of the region. In the afternoon, explore the Badami Fort, an ancient fort built on top of a hill. In the evening, visit the Bhutanatha Temple located on the banks of the Agastya Lake and watch the sunset.

Recommendations

If you have time, do consider visiting the Aihole and Pattadakal temples located nearby. You can also take a side trip to the nearby town of Hospet to explore the local markets and taste the local cuisine.
