Cultural Immersion in Ujjain: A 3-Day Itinerary for July 2023

1. Day 1: Mahakaleshwar Temple

After breakfast, head to the Bhartrihari Caves, where the famous saint and philosopher Bhartrihari is believed to have meditated. The caves are situated on the banks of the river Shipra, and the view is spectacular. In the afternoon, visit the Chintaman Ganesh Temple and the Mangalnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. End your day with a boat ride in the calm waters of the Shipra river and enjoy the sunset with a stunning view of the city.

3. Day 3: Kalidas Academy and Bade Ganesh Ji Ka Mandir
   15 minutes (2.5 km) from Bhartrihari Caves

   Start your day by visiting the Kalidas Academy, dedicated to the famous poet Kalidas. The academy has a museum that displays manuscripts, sculptures and paintings depicting the life and works of Kalidas. In the afternoon, head to the Bade Ganesh Ji Ka Mandir, one of the oldest and most revered temples in Ujjain. The temple is located on the banks of the river Kshipra and has a huge idol of Lord Ganesh. Spend your evening exploring the local markets and shopping for souvenirs like Maheshwari and Chanderi sarees, handicrafts and jewellery.
