7-Day Ladakh Motorcycle Riding Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Leh Palace
    10 minutes (1.5 miles) from Leh Market

    Start the day by exploring the Leh Palace, built in the 17th century. Take in the stunning view of Leh city from the palace's rooftop. In the afternoon, wander through the Leh Market where you can find everything from traditional Ladakhi souvenirs to fresh produce.

  2. Day 2: Nubra Valley
    128 km (4 hours) from Leh Palace

    Ride to the breath-taking Nubra valley, known for its sand dunes, Bactrian camels and hot springs. Take a dip in the hot springs and enjoy the landscape while riding in the surrounding areas.

  3. Day 3: Hemis Monastery
    40 km (1 hour) from Nubra Valley

    Visit Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest Buddhist monastery in Ladakh. Explore the beautiful interior and take in the stunning mountainous surroundings before returning to Leh.

  4. Day 4: Khardung La Pass
    39 km (1 hour) from Leh Palace

    Head to the world's highest motorable road, Khardung La pass, and enjoy the scenic views on the way. Once you reach the pass, take pictures and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountainscapes. Return to Leh and rest for the evening.

  5. Day 5: Pangong Tso Lake
    224 km (5 hours) from Leh Palace

    Embark on a scenic ride to Pangong Tso Lake, a high-altitude lake that stretches for over 130 km across the Tibetan plateau. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the shore and take in the beautiful views of the mountains and blue waters. Ride back to Leh and rest for the evening.

  6. Day 6: Magnetic Hill and Gurdwara Pathar Sahib
    28 km (40 minutes) from Leh Palace

    Ride to the Magnetic Hill, an optical illusion where cars appear to roll uphill, and then continue to the Gurdwara Pathar Sahib, a Sikh temple built in the 16th-century. Take in the stunning views of the Himalayas and learn about the history of the temple.

  7. Day 7: Shanti Stupa
    4 km (15 minutes) from Leh Palace

    End the trip by visiting the Shanti Stupa, a white-domed stupa built to promote world peace. Take in the stunning views of Leh and the surrounding mountains from the stupa and reflect on the amazing journey.

Recommendations

Consider visiting the Lamayuru Monastery, the Alchi Monastery or the Zanskar Valley for additional outdoor adventures. You can also take a break from riding and go for a trek, rafting or camping in the nearby areas. Don't forget to try Ladakhi cuisine, especially the locally brewed butter tea and thukpa noodle soup!
