4-Day Itinerary for Delhi

  1. Day 1: Red Fort
    15 minutes (3.7 km) from Indira Gandhi International Airport

    Morning: The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a stunning example of Mughal architecture and the most iconic landmark in Delhi. It was built in the 17th century and served as the residence of Mughal Emperors for almost 200 years. Spend the morning exploring the fort and its various sections, including the Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i-Khas, and the beautiful gardens.

    Afternoon: Visit the Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque, located just 10 minutes (2.6 km) from the Red Fort. The mosque was built in the 17th century and can accommodate up to 25,000 worshippers. Climb the minaret for a spectacular view of the city.

    Evening: Head to Chandni Chowk, one of the oldest and busiest markets in Delhi. The narrow lanes are filled with shops selling everything from clothes and jewellery to street food. Try some delicious chaat or paratha at one of the many food stalls.

  2. Day 2: Qutub Minar
    30 minutes (16 km) from Red Fort

    Morning: Qutub Minar is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the tallest brick minaret in the world. The tower is 73 metres high and was built in the 12th century. The complex also includes the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, the Iron Pillar of Delhi, and several other ancient structures.

    Afternoon: Head to Humayun's Tomb, a beautiful mausoleum built in the 16th century for the Mughal Emperor Humayun. The tomb is a precursor to the Taj Mahal and is surrounded by lush gardens and several other tombs.

    Evening: Visit Hauz Khas Village, a trendy neighbourhood filled with restaurants, cafes, and art galleries. Spend the evening exploring the various shops and trying some delicious food.

  3. Day 3: Lotus Temple
    30 minutes (12 km) from Qutub Minar

    Morning: The Lotus Temple, also known as the Bahai House of Worship, is a unique structure shaped like a lotus flower. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Delhi and is open to people of all religions. Spend the morning exploring the temple and its beautiful gardens.

    Afternoon: Head to India Gate, a war memorial located in the heart of the city. The archway is 42 metres high and bears the names of 13,516 British and Indian soldiers who died in World War I. The surrounding area is a popular spot for picnics and evening walks.

    Evening: Visit the Dilli Haat, an open-air market that showcases the various handicrafts and cuisines of India. Try some delicious street food and pick up some souvenirs for your friends and family.

  4. Day 4: Akshardham Temple
    30 minutes (10 km) from Lotus Temple

    Morning: The Akshardham Temple is a massive Hindu temple complex that showcases Indian art, culture, and spirituality. The temple is a recent addition to Delhi's many attractions, having been completed in 2005. Spend the morning exploring the temple and its various exhibitions.

    Afternoon: Visit the Raj Ghat, a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. The simple black marble slab marks the spot where Gandhi was cremated after his assassination in 1948.

    Evening: Head to Connaught Place, a popular shopping and dining hub in Delhi. The circular market is divided into several blocks and is home to several high-end stores and restaurants.
