3-Day Itinerary for Ujjain in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple
    15 minutes (1.5 miles) from Ujjain Junction railway station

    Start your day with a visit to Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is an architectural marvel and the most revered temple in Ujjain. It opens at 4 AM, and the morning aarti at 4:30 AM is a must-see. Afterward, enjoy a hearty breakfast at the nearby Prashant Restaurant, which serves delicious South Indian cuisine. In the afternoon, head to the Vedh Shala Observatory, which is only a 10-minute drive from the temple. It houses various astronomical instruments, including the Surya Ghati, which measures the time through sunlight. In the evening, go to the Kaliadeh Palace, which is situated on the banks of the Shipra River. It was once the summer palace of the Scindias and offers a stunning view of the river, especially during sunset.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and is believed to fulfill the wishes of its devotees. In the afternoon, visit the Harsiddhi Temple, which is around 30 minutes from the Chintaman Ganesh Temple. It is one of the Shakti Peeths and is dedicated to the goddess Annapurna. In the evening, head to the Mangalnath Temple, which is situated on a hill, around 20 minutes from the Harsiddhi Temple. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be the birthplace of Mars. It offers a stunning view of the city and is a perfect place to watch the sunset.
