Transportation

Public transport such as buses, taxis and the metro are the most convenient options for getting around. Cairo’s transport system is highly affordable, with plenty of ride-hail services available. Taxis from the airport should be pre-arranged and should cost around EGP 150 to the city center, depending on traffic. Plan ahead for traffic jams, especially during peak hours where trips may take twice the usual time.

Useful Tips

If you have more time, include a visit to Memphis, Dahshur, and the Saqqara necropolis. Consider taking a Nile River cruise to see the city from the river. If time is short, you can combine two or more sites in a single day to make the most of your trip. Winters are the most comfortable time due to the milder climate, but it can also be crowded during that time. Avoid trips during Islamic and Christian holidays as most historical sites and museums are closed on these days.

Airports

Cairo International Airport (CAI) is the busiest airport in Egypt and is located around 15 miles from the city center. As Egypt's primary international gateway, it handles flights from across the world.
