4-Day Family-Friendly Itinerary for Mumbai and Shirdi in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mumbai
    Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
    9 minutes (2.3 km) from Gateway of India

    In the morning, visit the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and marvel at the Victorian Gothic architecture. Afterwards, head to the Gateway of India, an iconic monument by the Arabian Sea. Take a boat ride to the Elephanta Caves, a collection of cave temples dating back to the 6th century. In the evening, enjoy a sunset view of the Arabian Sea and have dinner at one of the many restaurants in the area.

  2. Day 2: Mumbai

    Start the day at the Siddhivinayak Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. After seeking blessings, head to the Mahalakshmi Temple and Haji Ali Dargah, two other popular religious sites in Mumbai. In the afternoon, visit the Nehru Science Centre and explore interactive exhibits on science and technology. End the day with a visit to Bandra-Worli Sea Link, a cable-stayed bridge that offers stunning views of the city at night.

  3. Day 3: Shirdi
    Sai Baba Temple

    Head to Shirdi, the hometown of the revered saint Sai Baba. Begin the day at the Sai Baba Temple, where you can attend the morning aarti (prayer) and seek blessings. Afterwards, visit the Dwarkamai Mosque, where Sai Baba used to live, and the Chavadi, where he used to meditate. In the evening, take a stroll around the Sai Heritage Village and learn about Sai Baba's life and teachings.

  4. Day 4: Shirdi
    Shani Shingnapur
    1 hour 30 minutes (75 km) from Shirdi

    On the last day, take a day trip to Shani Shingnapur, a village famous for its Shani Temple, dedicated to the Hindu god Shani. The unique feature of this temple is that there is no roof or doors, and the idol is placed on an open platform. Take a dip in the Shani Shingnapur hot water springs and enjoy a traditional Maharashtrian meal. Return to Shirdi for the evening aarti at the Sai Baba Temple.

Recommendations

If you have more time in Mumbai, you can visit the Chor Bazaar, a famous market for antiques and vintage items, or the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, home to a variety of flora and fauna. For a side trip from Shirdi, you can visit the Nashik vineyards or the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites with stunning rock-cut sculptures and caves.
