3-Day Itinerary for Gandikota and Srisailam

  1. Day 1: Gandikota Fort
    1 hour 30 minutes (64.9 km) from Kadapa Railway Station
    Open from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

    In the morning, explore the magnificent Gandikota Fort which lies on the top of a red stone gorge. Take a walk on the fort walls and marvel at the stunning views of the Penneru River below. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Belum Caves, a natural underground cave system that is over 3 million years old and has beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. End the day with a peaceful evening by the lake at the Gandikota Nature Campsite.

  2. Day 2: Srisailam Dam and Mallikarjuna Temple
    1 hour 50 minutes (83.5 km) from Gandikota Fort
    Open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM

    Begin the day early at the Srisailam Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric projects in India. Take a boat ride to get closer to the dam and enjoy the serene surroundings. After that, head to the Mallikarjuna Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and offer your prayers to Lord Shiva. Spend the afternoon exploring the Mallela Theertham waterfalls and the Sakshi Ganapati Temple. In the evening, take a stroll by the Patala Ganga River and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

  3. Day 3: Akka Mahadevi Caves and Srisailam Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 30 minutes (62.2 km) from Mallikarjuna Temple
    Open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

    Start the day with a visit to the Akka Mahadevi Caves and learn about the life of the 12th-century Kannada poet, Akka Mahadevi. Marvel at the beautiful carvings and sculptures inside the caves. After that, head to the Srisailam Wildlife Sanctuary and take a safari to spot tigers, leopards, and sloth bears. In the afternoon, visit the Shikaresvara Temple and hike up to the top of the hill to get a panoramic view of the surroundings. End the day with a delicious meal at the Haritha Restaurant.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Patala Ganga and Srisailam Dam in the evening for a beautiful view of the illuminated dam. You can also take a day trip to the Ethipothala Falls, located about 47 km away from Srisailam. Don't forget to try the local cuisine, especially the spicy Andhra-style biryani and the famous Srisailam prasadam.
