4-day Nature Itinerary for Alaska's Northern Lights in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Anchorage
    20 minutes (3.5 miles) from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport

    In the morning, head to the Chugach State Park for a hike to Flattop Mountain, one of the most popular hikes in Anchorage. Enjoy stunning views of the city and surrounding nature. After lunch, visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center to learn about the rich culture of Alaska's indigenous people.   2. Day 2: Denali National Park
    4 hours and 30 minutes (237 miles) from Anchorage

    Early in the morning, drive to Denali National Park and Preserve, home to North America's highest peak, Mount Denali. Spend the morning hiking the Savage River Loop Trail, an easy two-mile trail with stunning views. In the afternoon, take a bus tour into the park to see wildlife such as grizzly bears, wolves, and moose.
