Family Friendly Itinerary for Mumbai in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Gateway of India
    20 minutes (7.3 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

    In the morning, head to the Gateway of India where you can enjoy a lovely view of the Arabian Sea. Take a boat ride to the Elephanta Caves located on Elephanta Island and explore the ancient rock-cut temples. In the afternoon, visit the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya to learn about the history and culture of Mumbai. In the evening, visit the Marine Drive and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

  2. Day 2: Sanjay Gandhi National Park
    1 hour 20 minutes (33 km) from Gateway of India

    Spend the day in the beautiful Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Go on a wildlife safari and explore the flora and fauna of the park. In the afternoon, visit the Kanheri Caves, a group of rock-cut monuments located within the park. In the evening, visit the Global Vipassana Pagoda and learn about the teachings of Buddha.

  3. Day 3: Juhu Beach
    1 hour (23.5 km) from Sanjay Gandhi National Park

    Spend the morning at Juhu Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Mumbai. Try the local street food and enjoy the horse carriage ride. In the afternoon, visit the Nehru Science Centre and learn about the various scientific innovations. In the evening, visit the ISKCON temple and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

  4. Day 4: Elephanta Caves
    1 hour 30 minutes (23.5 km) from Juhu Beach

    Spend the day at the Elephanta Caves located on Elephanta Island. Explore the ancient rock-cut temples and learn about the history and culture of the place. In the afternoon, visit the Haji Ali Dargah, a mosque and dargah located on an islet. In the evening, visit the Colaba Causeway market and shop for souvenirs.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can visit the famous Siddhivinayak Temple, the historical Bandra Fort and the vibrant Crawford Market. You can also take a side trip to the nearby hill station of Lonavala and Khandala. Make sure to try the local street food like vada pav, pav bhaji and bhel puri. Mumbai is a great place to shop for traditional Indian clothes and accessories.
