Two-Day Itinerary for Lonavala in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Karla Caves
    20 minutes (8.5 km) from Lonavala

    Morning: Visit the Karla Caves, one of the oldest Buddhist cave shrines in India, dating back to the 2nd century BC. Explore the architecture and sculptures depicting Buddhist teachings.

    Afternoon: Drive to Bushi Dam, a popular picnic spot where the waterfalls and lush greenery are a perfect place to relax and take a dip in the water.

    Evening: Visit the Rajmachi Point, a beautiful viewpoint that offers a panoramic view of the Rajmachi Fort and the valley below. Enjoy the scenic sunset view.

  2. Day 2: Lohagad Fort
    30 minutes (15 km) from Lonavala

    Morning: Take a trek to Lohagad Fort, one of the many hill forts in Maharashtra. Explore the fortifications, temples and caves. Enjoy the scenic beauty from the top of the fort.

    Afternoon: Visit the Lonavala Lake, a serene spot surrounded by lush greenery. Enjoy boating and a picnic lunch here.

    Evening: Head to the Ryewood Park, a large garden with tall trees and a variety of flowers. Take a stroll in the garden and relax before heading back to your hotel.

Recommendations

If you have time, visit the Pawna Lake and Dam, located 20 km from Lonavala. You can also go on a trek to the Visapur Fort, which is about 20 km from Lonavala.

If you're looking for a side trip, visit Khandala which is only 5 km from Lonavala. It is a beautiful hill station with scenic views and a perfect place for a day trip. You can also visit the Bhaja Caves, which are only 15 km from Lonavala and are another set of ancient Buddhist caves.

Make sure to try the local cuisine, including vada pav, misal pav and chikki. Lonavala is also known for its fudge and chocolate, which you can buy from several local shops.
