3-Day Cultural Immersion Itinerary in Roorkee and Kedarnath in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Roorkee

    Begin your cultural immersion by visiting the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, one of the oldest technical institutions in India. In the morning, take a guided tour of the campus and learn about its rich history and notable alumni. For lunch, visit the nearby Baba Ramdev Dhaba, a popular eatery known for its delicious North Indian cuisine. In the afternoon, head to the Solani Aqueduct, a remarkable engineering feat that dates back to the British era. In the evening, visit the Piran Kaliyar Sharif, a Sufi shrine on the outskirts of Roorkee, and attend the Qawwali performance.

  2. Day 2: Kedarnath
    From Roorkee to Kedarnath (225 miles) - 7-hour drive

    Start your day early and begin your journey to Kedarnath, one of the Char Dhams in Uttarakhand. Upon arrival at Kedarnath, visit the Kedarnath Temple, a popular Hindu pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Shiva. Afternoon, trek through the beautiful Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary and witness the stunning views of the Himalayas. In the evening, visit the Shankaracharya Samadhi, a holy site dedicated to the great philosopher and scholar Adi Shankaracharya.

  3. Day 3: Kedarnath
    Explore Kedarnath (0 miles)

    Start your day with yoga and meditation, surrounded by the serene and peaceful environment of Kedarnath. After breakfast, visit the Bhairav Temple, another popular temple in the region. In the afternoon, go on a local food tour and sample some of the delicious local cuisine like Kheer and Bal Mithai. In the evening, attend the Ganga Aarti ceremony, a beautiful and spiritual event held on the banks of the Ganges.

Recommendations

Aside from the itinerary mentioned, you can also visit the Rajaji National Park, located near Roorkee. For a side trip, you can visit Haridwar, another holy city in Uttarakhand, which is just a few hours drive from Roorkee. To maximize your fun, make sure to pack comfortable shoes and clothing and bring a camera to capture the stunning views of the Himalayas and the serene environment.
