Discovering Bhubaneswar in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Lingaraj Temple

    Begin your journey exploring the holy city by visiting the Lingaraj Temple. A masterpiece of architecture and one of the oldest temples in Bhubaneswar, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is surrounded by smaller temples.

    30 minutes (8.7 km) from Lingaraj Temple

    Discover the ancient Jain rock-cut caves from the 2nd century BC, known for their unique architectural style and rock art. These caves provide a beautiful panoramic view of the city and are an excellent location for a morning hike.

  3. Day 3: Mukteswara Temple
    20 minutes (5 km) from Khandagiri Caves

    Visit Mukteswara Temple, one of the best examples of medieval Hindu temple architecture in Bhubaneswar. Its intricate carvings and beautiful sculptures make it a must-visit spot. After dinner, stroll through the local bazaars and explore the street food scene.

  4. Day 4: Udayagiri Caves
    30 minutes (10.5 km) from Mukteswara Temple

    Another example of Jain rock-cut art, these caves are located on a hill and provide a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding areas. The caves contain various inscriptions, sculptures and reliefs that depict scenes from ancient Hindu mythology.

  5. Day 5: Dhauli Hill
    30 minutes (10 km) from Udayagiri Caves

    Visit the Shanti Stupa and the ancient rock edicts of Ashoka, who was one of the greatest kings of the Mauryan dynasty. Dhauli Hill is an excellent location for meditation and self-reflection. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenic beauty of the area.

  6. Day 6: Nandankanan Zoological Park
    50 minutes (20.2 km) from Dhauli Hill

    Enjoy a day with wildlife at Nandankanan Zoological Park. See the white tigers, Indian pangolins, crocodiles, and many other animal species. It is a great spot to enjoy a family picnic, and the park offers boat rides and a toy train for children.

  7. Day 7: Kalinga Stadium
    20 minutes (7 km) from Nandankanan Zoological Park

    Spend your last day watching a sport or a cultural event at the Kalinga Stadium, which can seat 30,000 spectators. Kalinga Stadium is home to many sporting events and also hosts international events like the FIH Hockey World Cup and the Asian Athletics Championships.
