3-Day Nature Itinerary for Chikkamagaluru in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mullayanagiri Peak
    1 hour 30 minutes (25.8 miles) from Chikkamagaluru

    Morning: Start your day with a scenic drive to Mullayanagiri Peak, the highest peak in Karnataka. Take a 3 km trek to the summit and enjoy the panoramic views of the Western Ghats. If you're lucky, you may spot some exotic bird species. Don't forget to carry water and snacks.

    Afternoon: Head to the Baba Budangiri Hills, 30 minutes (10.5 miles) away, and visit the Manikyadhara Falls. Enjoy a refreshing dip in the cold waterfall stream or take a seat on the rocks and enjoy the view.

    Evening: Visit the Kavikal Gandi Viewpoint, a 20-minute drive (8.5 miles) away from Manikyadhara Falls, and witness a stunning sunset view. Return to Chikkamagaluru for dinner.

  2. Day 2: Coffee Plantation Tour and Hebbe Falls

  3. Day 3: Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary and Bababudangiri Range

    Morning: Head to Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, a 1 hour 30-minute drive (38.1 miles) away, and spot some exotic species like tigers, leopards, and elephants. You can also take a boat ride in the Bhadra Reservoir and catch a glimpse of the rare aquatic fauna.

    Afternoon: Drive to the Bababudangiri Range, a 30-minute drive (10.8 miles) from Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, and visit the Dattatreya Peetha, a religious site located on the top of the Baba Budan Giri Hills. The shrine is dedicated to both Hindu and Muslim deities and is renowned for its religious harmony.

    Evening: Return to Chikkamagaluru and go for some souvenir shopping at the Chikkamagaluru market. End your day with a delicious dinner at a local restaurant.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, you can visit the famous Belur and Halebid temples, a 2-hour drive (57.2 miles) from Chikkamagaluru. You can also take a day trip to the Shettihalli Wildlife Sanctuary to spot some rare bird species. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks during your trip, especially if you're planning to trek.
