Start your day by visiting one of the most sacred Hindu temples, the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. Get here early to avoid the crowds and witness the Bhasma Aarti, a special daily ritual where Lord Shiva is worshipped with ash.

In the afternoon, visit the Kal Bhairav Temple, a temple dedicated to Lord Bhairav, believed to be the fierce form of Lord Shiva. The temple is located near the Mahakaleshwar temple and has a unique architecture that will leave you spellbound. Afterward, you can explore the nearby market and try local delicacies like sabudana khichdi or poha.

In the evening, head to Ram Ghat to witness the divine evening aarti on the banks of the river Shipra. You can also enjoy a boat ride or just sit by the river and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

  2. Day 2: Vedh Shala Observatory and Kaliadeh Palace
20 minutes (8 km) from Mahakaleshwar Temple

Start your day by visiting the Vedh Shala Observatory, an ancient astronomical observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. The observatory has various instruments used for measuring time, predicting eclipses, and determining celestial coordinates. It is a fascinating place for science enthusiasts, and the view of the city from the observatory is also breathtaking.

Afterward, head to the Kaliadeh Palace, located on the banks of the river Shipra. The palace was built by the Scindias and was used as a hunting lodge. The palace has beautiful Mughal-style architecture and is surrounded by a lush garden. The palace has now been converted into a museum, showcasing the history and culture of Ujjain.

In the evening, visit the Sandipani Ashram, where Lord Krishna and Sudama were believed to have studied as children. The Ashram is located near the Kaliadeh Palace and has a peaceful atmosphere. You can also participate in the evening aarti here.
