Puri 2-Day Itinerary for July 2023

  1. Day 1: Jagannath Temple
    5 minutes (0.5 miles) from Puri Beach

    Jagannath Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple is known for its annual Rath Yatra or Chariot Festival, where the idols of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra are taken out in a procession on giant wooden chariots. In the morning, you can witness the Mangala Aarti, the first ritual of the day, where the idol of Lord Jagannath is awakened with hymns and prayers. Followed by this, you can attend the Abakash ritual at 6.00 am, where the idols are given a bath and dressed for the day. In the afternoon, you can enjoy the Prasad (food) at the temple canteen, which serves delicious vegetarian food. In the evening, you can witness the Sandhya Aarti, where the idols are offered prayers during sunset. Note that non-Hindus are not allowed inside the temple premises.

  2. Day 1: Puri Beach
    15 minutes (2.5 miles) from Jagannath Temple

    Puri Beach is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Puri. It is known for its golden sand, clear blue waters and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The beach has a long promenade where you can take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the sea breeze. In the morning, you can take a dip in the sea and enjoy water activities such as surfing, jet skiing, and parasailing. In the afternoon, you can grab some street food from the vendors near the beach and enjoy a picnic on the sand. In the evening, you can watch the sunset while enjoying some local delicacies at one of the beachfront restaurants.

  3. Day 2: Konark Sun Temple
    30 minutes (20 miles) from Puri Beach

    Konark Sun Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-visit attraction in Puri. It is a 13th-century temple dedicated to the Sun God and is famous for its architectural grandeur and intricate stone carvings. In the morning, you can explore the temple complex and marvel at the exquisite carvings depicting mythological stories and scenes from daily life. In the afternoon, you can visit the nearby ASI Museum, which houses a collection of sculptures and artifacts from the temple. In the evening, you can enjoy the light and sound show that showcases the history and significance of the temple.

  4. Day 2: Chilika Lake
    1 hour (35 miles) from Konark Sun Temple

    Chilika Lake is Asia's largest brackish water lagoon and a popular destination for birdwatchers and nature lovers. In the morning, you can take a boat ride to explore the lake and spot some of the birds and dolphins that inhabit it. In the afternoon, you can enjoy a seafood lunch at one of the many restaurants near the lake. In the evening, you can watch the sunset over the lake while enjoying a cup of tea.
