Discovering the Best of Kerala in 4 Days in December 2023

  1. Day 1: Fort Kochi
    1 hour 10 minutes (22.9 km) from Cochin International Airport

    In the morning, explore the charming narrow streets of Fort Kochi, visit the Mattancherry Palace with its beautiful murals and the nearby Jewish Synagogue. Have a traditional Kerala lunch at Dal Roti and then check out the stunning Chinese fishing nets. In the afternoon, visit the Indo-Portuguese Museum to learn about the history of the area and see some excellent examples of Indo-Portuguese art. End the day with a relaxing sunset at the famous Fort Kochi Beach.

  2. Day 2: Munnar
    4 hours 30 minutes (129 km) from Fort Kochi

    Start the day by driving to Munnar, a beautiful hill station known for its tea plantations. Take a guided tour of one of the many tea factories in the area and learn about the process of making tea. In the afternoon, visit the Top Station, a viewpoint that offers breathtaking views of the Western Ghats mountain range. End the day with some authentic local cuisine at Saravana Bhavan.

  3. Day 3: Alleppey
    3 hours 30 minutes (140 km) from Munnar

    Take a morning drive to Alleppey, also known as the Venice of the East. Explore the backwaters of Alleppey on a houseboat and take in the scenic views of the palm trees, rice fields and quaint villages. Enjoy a delicious traditional lunch prepared by the houseboat chef. In the evening, visit the Alleppey Beach to watch the sunset and enjoy some local street food.

  4. Day 4: Kovalam
    3 hours (180 km) from Alleppey

    Start the day by visiting the Padmanabhaswamy Temple, a famous Hindu temple in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram. Take a stroll through the lush greenery of the nearby Napier Museum and Art Gallery. In the afternoon, drive to Kovalam beach and enjoy the sun, sand and sea. End the day with a relaxing Ayurvedic spa treatment at the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort.

Recommendations

If you have some extra days, visit Wayanad to explore its beautiful waterfalls, wildlife and trekking trails. You can also head to Thekkady, famous for its spice plantations and national park. For a side trip, visit the Athirapally Waterfalls, one of the biggest waterfalls in Kerala. To maximize your fun, try some local activities such as Kathakali dance performances, Kalaripayattu martial arts demonstrations and snake boat races.
