Rajasthan Family Friendly 5-Day Itinerary - December 2023

  1. Day 1: Amer Fort
    20 minutes (6.7 km) from Jaipur City Centre

    In the morning, explore the Amer Fort's exquisite architecture and learn about the history of the Rajput Kings. Have lunch at the restaurant overlooking the Maota Lake and then take a stroll through the fort's gardens. Spend the afternoon visiting the Jaigarh Fort, which is located nearby, and marvel at its collection of antique weapons. In the evening, enjoy the Sound and Light show at the Amer Fort.

  2. Day 2: City Palace and Hawa Mahal
    10 minutes (3.2 km) from Amer Fort

    In the morning, explore the City Palace and its various courtyards, gardens, and museums. Have lunch at the nearby Laxmi Misthan Bhandar, a local favorite for its Rajasthani cuisine. In the afternoon, visit the Hawa Mahal, also known as the Palace of Winds, and learn about the royal women's lifestyle during the 18th century. In the evening, stroll through the vibrant markets of Jaipur and shop for souvenirs.

  3. Day 3: Jantar Mantar and Jal Mahal
    15 minutes (5.2 km) from Hawa Mahal

    In the morning, visit the Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory built in the early 18th century. Learn about the instruments used to study the position of celestial objects and time. Have lunch nearby at the Suvarna Mahal restaurant at Rambagh Palace, and then drive to Jal Mahal, a palace situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. Enjoy a boat ride and admire the stunning views of the palace. In the evening, have dinner at Chokhi Dhani, a Rajasthani-themed village resort.

  4. Day 4: Mehrangarh Fort and Jaswant Thada
    15 minutes (4.5 km) from Jodhpur City Centre

    In the morning, visit the Mehrangarh Fort, one of the largest forts in India, and explore its palaces, galleries, and museums. Have lunch at the fort's restaurant, overlooking the Blue City. In the afternoon, visit the Jaswant Thada, a cenotaph built in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Enjoy the serene gardens and marble architecture. In the evening, take a walk through the local bazaar and indulge in some street food.

  5. Day 5: Pushkar
    2 hours (150 km) from Jodhpur City Centre

    In the morning, drive to Pushkar, a sacred town famous for its Brahma Temple and Pushkar Lake. Attend the morning aarti at the temple and take a dip in the holy waters of the lake. Have lunch at a rooftop restaurant and enjoy the panoramic views of the town. In the afternoon, visit the bazaar and shop for handicrafts and clothes. Drive back to Jodhpur in the evening, and have dinner at On The Rocks restaurant, which offers a stunning view of Mehrangarh Fort.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, visit the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, a Sufi shrine located in the city of Ajmer. You can also take a camel ride at the Sam Sand Dunes near Jaisalmer or visit the Ranthambore National Park to spot tigers. To maximize your fun, hire a local guide, who can share interesting stories and insights about the places you visit. Don't forget to try the local sweets, such as ghevar and mawa kachori!
