2-Day Itinerary for City Experiences in Guwahati (June 2023)

  1. Day 1: Kamakhya Temple
    15 minutes (4.5 km) from Guwahati Railway Station

    Morning: Visit Kamakhya Temple, one of the most revered Hindu shrines in India. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya and is known for its unique architecture and vibrant annual festival, Ambubachi Mela. Do not forget to taste the delicious prasad offered at the temple.
    Afternoon: Visit the Assam State Museum, which houses a vast collection of artifacts, sculptures, and paintings that depict the rich history and culture of Assam. Do not miss the traditional textiles and handicrafts on display.
    Evening: Enjoy the sunset view at Brahmaputra Riverfront. Take a stroll along the river and savor some local street food.

  2. Day 2: Umananda Island and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
    Umananda Island: 20 minutes (5 km) from Kamakhya Temple
    Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary: 2.5 hours (50 km) from Umananda Island

    Morning: Take a ferry ride to Umananda Island located in the middle of Brahmaputra River. Visit the ancient Shiva Temple and enjoy the scenic beauty of the island. Do not forget to taste the famous Assamese tea.
    Afternoon: Drive to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. Take a jeep safari and spot other wildlife such as wild elephants, leopards, and migratory birds.
    Evening: Return to Guwahati and visit Fancy Bazaar, one of the oldest markets in the city. Shop for souvenirs, handicrafts, and traditional Assamese textiles.
