4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Gangtok and East Sikkim in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Tsomgo Lake
    40 minutes (19.2 km) from Gangtok

    In the morning, drive to Tsomgo Lake, a glacial lake located at an altitude of 12,400 ft. Spend time boating, exploring the lake area, and taking in the breathtaking views. In the afternoon, visit the Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial, dedicated to an Indian army soldier who lost his life near the Nathula Pass. End the day with a visit to the Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary, famous for its colorful rhododendrons.

  2. Day 2: Nathula Pass and Zuluk
    2 hours 30 minutes (51.3 km) from Gangtok

    Start early to drive to Nathula Pass, a mountain pass on the India-China border. Enjoy the panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains and visit the Indo-China border. Later, head to Zuluk, a small village known for its scenic beauty and winding roads. Explore the village and unwind in the serene surroundings.

  3. Day 3: Khecheopalri Lake and Pelling
    3 hours 30 minutes (111 km) from Zuluk

    Start the day with a drive to Khecheopalri Lake, a sacred lake located at an altitude of 5,500 ft. Go on a nature walk around the lake and spot some rare bird species. Later, drive to Pelling, a small town famous for its ancient monasteries and stunning views of the Himalayas. Visit the Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest and most important monasteries in Sikkim. End the day with a visit to the Rabdentse Ruins, a historical site that was once the second capital of Sikkim.

  4. Day 4: Ravangla and Namchi
    2 hours 30 minutes (64.9 km) from Pelling

    In the morning, drive to Ravangla, a picturesque town located at an altitude of 7,000 ft. Visit the Ralang Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim, and go on a short trek to the Tumlong Monastery. In the afternoon, drive to Namchi, a small town famous for its cultural heritage and stunning views of the mountains. Visit the Namchi Monastery, the Char Dham, and the Samdruptse Monastery. End the day with a visit to the Namchi Rock Garden, a beautifully landscaped garden with a variety of flora and fauna.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Gangtok Ropeway, Tashi View Point, and Rumtek Monastery. A side trip to the Lachung Valley and Yumthang Valley is also highly recommended to witness the beauty of the Himalayas. To maximize your fun, try local Sikkimese cuisine, go on a Yak ride, and buy some traditional handicrafts. Don't forget to check the weather and road conditions before starting your journey.
