Relaxation in Amritsar, Punjab: A 3-Day Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Golden Temple
10 minutes (2.2 km) from Amritsar Junction Railway Station

The holiest Gurdwara of Sikhism is a must-visit. Beat the crowds by arriving early to see the serene temple and watch the morning rituals. Spend the afternoon at the Guru Ka Langar, the temple's community kitchen, and enjoy a simple but wholesome vegetarian meal. End the evening with the Palki Sahib ceremony, where the holy book is carried to its resting place.

  2. Day 2: Partition Museum and Jallianwala Bagh
10 minutes (2 km) from Golden Temple

Learn about India's independence struggle and the tragic events that took place in Amritsar on April 13, 1919, at the Partition Museum and Jallianwala Bagh. The newly opened Partition Museum tells the stories of those who lived through the violent partition of India in 1947. Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden and a memorial to the hundreds of innocent civilians who were killed during a peaceful protest here. End the day with a visit to the colourful Hall Bazaar for some shopping and delicious street food.

  3. Day 3: Pul Kanjari and Wagah Border
30 minutes (25 km) from Golden Temple

Start the day with a visit to the historic Pul Kanjari, a village where Maharaja Ranjit Singh built a beautiful temple and a palace for his beloved. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the Beas River and enjoying a picnic lunch. End the trip on a patriotic note by witnessing the Beating Retreat ceremony at the Wagah Border, the only road border crossing between India and Pakistan. Cheer on the soldiers as they lower their flags and shake hands before closing the gates.
