7-Day Adventure Itinerary in Ladakh in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Leh
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport

    Arrive in Leh and take it easy to acclimatize to the high altitude. Visit Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa for panoramic views of the city. In the evening, explore the local markets and try some traditional Ladakhi cuisine.

  2. Day 2: Nubra Valley
    4 hours (120 km) from Leh

    Drive to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass, the highest motorable road in the world. Visit Diskit Monastery and Hunder Sand Dunes for a double-humped camel ride. Stay overnight in a traditional Ladakhi homestay and stargaze at night.

  3. Day 3: Pangong Tso Lake
    6 hours (160 km) from Nubra Valley

    Drive to Pangong Tso Lake, the highest saltwater lake in the world. En route, stop at the beautiful Chang La Pass and the picturesque villages of Shey and Thiksey. Stay overnight in a lakeside campsite and enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sunset.

  4. Day 4: Hemis National Park
    5 hours (150 km) from Pangong Tso Lake

    Go for a wildlife safari in Hemis National Park to spot the elusive snow leopard and other Himalayan wildlife. Visit Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. Stay overnight in a traditional Ladakhi homestay.

  5. Day 5: Zanskar Valley
    6 hours (200 km) from Hemis National Park

    Drive to Zanskar Valley via the high-altitude Penzi La Pass. Visit the historic Phugtal Monastery and go for a short hike in the beautiful landscapes of Zanskar. Stay overnight in a traditional Ladakhi homestay.

  6. Day 6: Magnetic Hill and Alchi Monastery
    4 hours (120 km) from Zanskar Valley

    Experience the optical illusion of Magnetic Hill and visit the ancient Alchi Monastery known for its unique 11th-century frescoes. In the evening, visit the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and enjoy a serene sunset at the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers.

  7. Day 7: Leh
    2 hours (50 km) from Magnetic Hill

    Return to Leh and visit the famous monasteries of Spituk and Stok. In the afternoon, explore the old town of Leh and shop for souvenirs. Enjoy a farewell dinner with Ladakhi hospitality and prepare for your departure the next day.

Recommendations

Visit the nearby Tso Moriri Lake, go for a trek in the Markha Valley, or experience the Chadar Trek in winter. You can also try some adventure sports like river rafting or mountain biking. Don't forget to carry warm clothes, sunscreen, and enough cash as ATM's are limited and unreliable.
