5-Day Amarnath Adventure Itinerary for July 2023

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Srinagar
    1-hour (27.3 miles) from Srinagar International Airport

    Upon arrival, take a shikara ride on Dal Lake to soak in the scenic beauty of Srinagar. In the afternoon, visit the Mughal Gardens, known for their terraced lawns, cascading fountains and beautiful flower beds. In the evening, experience the local cuisine at The Chinar Restaurant.

  2. Day 2: Srinagar to Pahalgam
    3 hours (60.8 miles) from Srinagar

    Drive to Pahalgam in the morning and indulge in adventurous activities like river rafting in Lidder river and trekking along the beautiful Aru Valley. In the evening, take a stroll in the local market and enjoy the local delicacies at Dana Pani Restaurant.

  3. Day 3: Pahalgam to Chandanwari
    23 minutes (6.8 miles) from Pahalgam

    Start the yatra from Chandanwari and proceed towards Pissu Top and then to Sheshnag, where you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Himalayas. In the evening, retire to your tents and enjoy the local cuisine at the campsite.

  4. Day 4: Chandanwari to Amarnath Cave
    6 hours (22.9 miles) from Chandanwari

    Start the trek to Amarnath Cave early in the morning and reach the holy cave by afternoon. Take a dip in the icy waters of the Amarnath stream and pay your respects to the ice lingam. In the evening, stay in a nearby campsite and enjoy the local cuisine.

  5. Day 5: Amarnath Cave to Srinagar
    9 hours (128 miles) from Amarnath Cave

    Start the journey back to Srinagar early in the morning and visit the Hazratbal Shrine en-route. In the evening, visit the local markets for some last-minute souvenir shopping and enjoy the local cuisine at Mughal Darbar.

Recommendations

Other local attractions to consider are the Shankaracharya Hill Temple, the Jama Masjid, and the Hari Parbat Fort. A side trip to Gulmarg, known as the "Meadow of Flowers," is highly recommended. To maximize your fun, pack comfortable clothing and shoes and carry water bottles to stay hydrated. Don't forget to carry your ID proofs and medical certificates as well.
