Start your exploration of Ladakh with the iconic Leh Palace, a nine-story palace that was once the home of the royal family. The palace was built in the 17th century by King Sengge Namgyal and offers breathtaking views of Leh City. Spend your morning exploring the palace and admiring the intricate woodwork, artwork and architecture. Afternoon can be spent visiting Shanti Stupa, a white-domed Buddhist stupa that was built by a Japanese Buddhist organization to promote world peace. In the evening, visit the local markets and indulge in local delicacies like momos, thukpa and butter tea.

Head to Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest Buddhist monastery in Ladakh, in the morning. The monastery was built in the 17th century and houses a rare collection of ancient relics, including a copper statue of the Buddha and a number of gold and silver stupas. Afternoon can be spent visiting Shey Palace, a 15th-century royal palace that was built by the first king of Ladakh. The palace was abandoned in the 19th century and today only its ruins remain. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Ladakhi dance performance at the local cultural center.
