If you plan to visit multiple cities, consider purchasing the Japan Rail Pass, which provides unlimited use of JR trains and buses for 7, 14, or 21 days. Taxis and private cars are also available, but can be costly. Estimated total transportation costs for this itinerary is around 45,500 JPY per person.

Narita International Airport (NRT) is located in Chiba and is the primary gateway to Japan. It's approximately 60 km (37 mi) from central Tokyo and you can reach it by train or bus. Another airport, Haneda International Airport (HND), is much closer to Tokyo, approximately 30 km (18 mi) south of the city center. Domestic flights and select international airlines fly in and out of HND.
