Transportation

For ground transportation, we recommend taking the Shinkansen Bullet Train, which is speedy, reliable, and offers stunning views of the countryside. You can also use local transportation such as buses and subways. If you plan to visit multiple cities, consider purchasing the Japan Rail Pass, which provides unlimited use of JR trains and buses for 7, 14, or 21 days. Taxis and private cars are also available, but can be costly. Estimated total transportation costs for this itinerary is around 45,500 JPY per person.

Useful Tips

For those who have extra time, consider visiting Nara, a city close to Kyoto, and visit the friendly deer park. You can also experience a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn, in Hakone for a unique cultural experience. For those with less time, cut short your stay in Osaka or Hiroshima.

Airports

Narita International Airport (NRT) is located in Chiba and is the primary gateway to Japan. It's approximately 60 km (37 mi) from central Tokyo and you can reach it by train or bus. Another airport, Haneda International Airport (HND), is much closer to Tokyo, approximately 30 km (18 mi) south of the city center. Domestic flights and select international airlines fly in and out of HND.
