3-Day Itinerary for Ujjain in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahakaleshwar Temple
    10 minutes (2 km) from Ujjain Junction railway station

    Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is a must-visit for all devotees of Lord Shiva. The temple is known for its unique Bhasma Aarti, which is held early in the morning. Spend the morning offering prayers and seeking blessings from Lord Shiva. In the afternoon, explore the nearby local markets known for their traditional handicrafts, jewelry, and saris. In the evening, you can attend the temple's light and sound show that takes you through the history and mythology of the Mahakaleshwar Temple.

  2. Day 2: Kaliadeh Palace and Vedh Shala Observatory
    20 minutes (6 km) from Mahakaleshwar Temple

    Begin your day visiting the Kaliadeh Palace, situated on the banks of the Shipra River. The palace was built by King Bhoj in the 11th century and was used as a resting place for the royal family during the summer season. Later, head to the Vedh Shala Observatory, which was established in the early 19th century. The observatory has several astronomical instruments that are still in working condition. In the evening, enjoy a boat ride on the Shipra River and witness the Ganga Aarti at the Triveni Ghat.

  3. Day 3: Kal Bhairav Temple and Sandipani Ashram
    15 minutes (4 km) from Vedh Shala Observatory

    On the last day, visit the Kal Bhairav Temple, dedicated to Lord Bhairav, one of the fierce forms of Lord Shiva. The temple is known for its unique architecture and the Mahakal Chakra, which was installed by Adi Shankaracharya. After offering your prayers, head to the Sandipani Ashram, which is believed to be the place where Lord Krishna and Sudama studied together. The ashram has a museum that depicts the life and teachings of Lord Krishna. In the evening, you can attend the Gomti River Aarti at Ramghat.

If you have time, you can also visit the Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir, Chintaman Ganesh Temple, and the Harsiddhi Temple. You can also take a day trip to Omkareshwar, a popular pilgrimage site situated on an island in the Narmada River. To maximize your fun, try the local delicacies like poha, jalebi, and chaat.
