Explore Puri with Family for 2 Days in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Shree Jagannath Temple
6 minutes (1.5 km) from Puri Beach

Start your day with a visit to Shree Jagannath Temple, one of the most sacred temples in India. The temple is a fine example of the Kalinga architecture style and is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The morning darshan is a must-see, and you can also visit the temple museum to learn more about its history. For lunch, try some of the local delicacies like fish curry and prawn masala at a nearby restaurant. In the afternoon, head to Puri Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Odisha. Enjoy a stroll on the golden sand, take a dip in the sea, or try some adventurous activities like parasailing or banana boat rides. In the evening, visit the beach market for some souvenir shopping or try some street food from the local vendors.

  2. Day 2: Chilika Lake
44 minutes (50 km) from Puri Beach

Take a day trip to Chilika Lake, Asia's largest brackish water lagoon and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lake is home to several endangered species like Irrawaddy dolphins and black-necked cranes. Hire a boat and explore the lake while enjoying the beautiful scenery and the peace and quiet. If you're lucky, you might spot some dolphins. For lunch, try some fresh seafood at a restaurant near the lake. In the afternoon, visit the Nalabana Bird Sanctuary, which is located in the middle of the lake and is home to various migratory birds. Enjoy a leisurely walk around the sanctuary and spot some rare bird species. Return to Puri in the evening and relax at your hotel.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting Konark Sun Temple, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is located about 35 km from Puri. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu Sun God, Surya, and is famous for its stunning architecture. You can also visit Raghurajpur, a small village near Puri, which is famous for its Pattachitra paintings. If you're looking for some adventure, try some water sports like surfing or jet skiing at Puri Beach. To maximize your fun, hire a local guide who can show you around and help you discover some hidden gems. Don't forget to try some local street food like Puri Bhaji and Dalma, which are famous in Odisha.
