Nature-Lover's 7-Day Itinerary for Tinsukia in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Digboi Oil Refinery
    45 minutes (32 km) from Tinsukia Town

    Explore the history and technology of one of the oldest refineries in Asia amidst the lush green surroundings. Take a guided tour to learn about the oil extraction and refining process.

  2. Day 2: Dibru-Saikhowa National Park
    1 hour 20 minutes (50 km) from Digboi Oil Refinery

    Embark on an early morning jeep safari and spot some of the rarest bird species such as Bengal Florican and Jerdon's Babbler along with other wildlife like Water Buffalo, Wild Horses, and Gangetic Dolphin. Take a boat ride on the Brahmaputra River at sunset.

  3. Day 3: Maguri Beel
    45 minutes (20 km) from Dibru-Saikhowa National Park

    Start the day with birdwatching at Maguri Beel, a wetland with over 150 species of birds. Take a nature walk to explore the surrounding tea gardens and interact with local tea workers to learn about the tea cultivation process.

  4. Day 4: Shiv Dham
    1 hour 10 minutes (48 km) from Maguri Beel

    Visit the divine Shiv Dham, and witness the grandeur of the 33-feet tall Lord Shiva statue and several other Hindu deities. Take a stroll around the surrounding gardens and explore the miniatures of other famous holy places.

  5. Day 5: Namdang Bibi Majhar
    25 minutes (10 km) from Shiv Dham

    Visit the famous mosque of Tinsukia, Namdang Bibi Majhar, and learn about its history and significance. Spend time exploring the beautiful architecture and take a moment to pray in the serene environment.

  6. Day 6: Tikak Tea Estate
    40 minutes (22 km) from Namdang Bibi Majhar

    Explore the vast tea gardens of Tikak Tea Estate, the largest tea estate in Tinsukia. Take a guided tour of the tea factory and learn about the process of tea making. Enjoy a cup of freshly brewed tea and buy some tea as a souvenir.

  7. Day 7: Sadiya
    1 hour 30 minutes (63 km) from Tikak Tea Estate

    Take a day trip to Sadiya, the easternmost town of India and witness the confluence of Brahmaputra and Lohit rivers. Visit the ancient Keshavdev Temple, and spend time at the nearby Rukmini Island and Gaurisagar Tank.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to several endangered species. You can also take a day trip to the nearby town of Margherita, known for its coal mines, and visit the historic Ledo Club.

Make sure to carry insect repellent, sunscreen, and appropriate clothing and footwear for the outdoor activities. Book your safari and boat ride in advance to avoid last-minute hassles.
