3-Day Nature Itinerary in Karnataka in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Bandipur National Park
    4 hours 30 minutes (144.7 km) from Bangalore

    Begin your day early and embark on a jungle safari at Bandipur National Park. Spot tigers, elephants and other wildlife species as you explore the lush green forests. Afternoon is best spent at Gopalaswamy Betta, a picturesque hill offering panoramic views of the park and surrounding areas. In the evening, visit the Himavad Gopalaswamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna, located at the foothills of Gopalaswamy Betta.

  2. Day 2: Abbey Falls and Dubare Elephant Camp

    Begin your day at Abbey Falls, located amidst coffee and spice plantations, where you can witness the cascading beauty of the falls. Then head to Dubare Elephant Camp to spend the afternoon with these majestic creatures, where you can take a guided elephant ride or simply watch them being bathed and fed. In the evening, visit the Namdroling Monastery, the largest teaching center of the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism in the world.

  3. Day 3: Coorg Coffee Plantations and Nagarhole National Park
    2 hours 20 minutes (86.6 km) from Dubare Elephant Camp

    Start your day with a tour of Coorg coffee plantations, and learn about the coffee-making process. Afternoon is best spent at Nagarhole National Park, a wildlife reserve home to tigers, elephants, and other endangered species. Embark on a jeep safari, and spot the wildlife in their natural habitat. In the evening, visit the Raja's Seat, a beautiful garden offering stunning views of the hills and valleys of Coorg.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Jog Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in India, or the Hampi ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can also take a side trip to Mysore, known for its palaces, gardens, and silk sarees. To maximize your fun, try the local cuisine, including Coorgi pork, bamboo shoot curry, and akki roti.
