3-Day Itinerary for Gir in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Visit Gir National Park
    1 hour 20 minutes (40 miles) from Junagadh

    Morning: Start your day early and head to Gir National Park, the only place where you can spot the majestic Asiatic Lions. You can opt for either a jeep or a bus safari. Afternoon: After the safari, visit the Interpretation Zone, which has many exhibits and provides information about the flora and fauna of the park. Evening: Head back to Junagadh and explore the city's famous Uparkot Fort.

  2. Day 2: Explore Junagadh
    10 minutes (2.8 miles) from Girnar Hill

    Morning: Visit the ancient Mahabat Maqbara mausoleum, which boasts intricate architecture and beautiful artwork. Afternoon: Head to the Girnar Hill, which offers a challenging hike with stunning views of the surrounding valley. Evening: Visit the Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden, which has a wide variety of animals and birds.

  3. Day 3: Visit Somnath Temple and Beach
    2 hours (65 miles) from Junagadh

    Morning: Visit the historic Somnath Temple, which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Afternoon: Take a dip in the Arabian Sea at the nearby Somnath Beach. Evening: Visit the Bhalka Tirth, where Lord Krishna was mistaken for a deer and was accidentally shot by a hunter.

Recommendations

If you have additional time, you could also visit the Girnar Wildlife Sanctuary, which has a variety of wildlife including leopards and antelopes. You could also take a side trip to the nearby city of Diu, which has beautiful beaches and historic forts. To maximize your fun, try to plan your visit during the cooler months of November to February. Lastly, make sure to try the local cuisine, which includes dishes such as fafda, dhokla, and khandvi.
