Five Days "City Experiences" Itinerary for Pondicherry in June 2023

  1. Day 1: The French Quarter
    15 minutes (6.7 km) from Pondicherry Railway Station

    In the morning, explore the charming French Quarter, known for its colonial architecture and vibrant atmosphere. Visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community dedicated to the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Walk along the Promenade Beach to witness the sunrise and take a stroll in the botanical gardens. Afternoon can be spent at the Pondicherry Museum, featuring a collection of artefacts, sculptures, and relics. In the evening, head to the Goubert Market, a local bazaar, for some delicious street food and souvenir shopping.

  2. Day 2: Auroville
    30 minutes (12 km) from The French Quarter

    Visit Auroville, an experimental township founded in 1968 with the aim of creating a universal town where men and women of all countries can live in peace and harmony.   3. Day 3: Chunnambar Boat House
    20 minutes (8 km) from Auroville

    Head to the Chunnambar Boat House for a day filled with water-based activities. Take a boat ride to Paradise Beach, a secluded and pristine beach, perfect for sunbathing and swimming. You can also indulge in a range of water sports such as jet skiing, kayaking, and banana boat rides.   4. Day 4: The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

    Visit the Pondicherry Botanical Garden, spread over 22 acres, featuring a wide variety of exotic plants, trees, and flowers. In the morning, take a walk through the garden and admire the beauty of nature. Afternoon can be spent at the Pondicherry Science Centre and Planetarium, featuring interactive exhibits, a 3D theatre, and a planetarium. In the evening, head to the Rock Beach, a popular spot for jogging, walking, and enjoying the cool sea breeze.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can take a day trip to Mahabalipuram, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its rock-cut temples and sculptures.
