Two-Day Itinerary for Shimla in October 2023

  1. Day 1: The Ridge
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Shimla Bus Stand

    Located at the heart of Shimla and walking distance from Mall Road, The Ridge is a spacious open space with a panoramic view of the mountains. Start your morning with a stroll on the Ridge with a cup of hot tea from the roadside vendors and admire the beauty of Christ Church and the neo-Gothic architecture of the surrounding buildings. In the afternoon, visit the Gaiety Theatre, a British-era theater beautifully restored, and take a guided tour. In the evening, head to Scandal Point, a popular meeting place for locals and enjoy the sunset with a scenic view of the snow-capped mountains.

  2. Day 2: Jakhu Temple and Chadwick Falls
    30 minutes (8.1 km) from The Ridge

    Start your day with a visit to Jakhu Temple, located at the highest peak of Shimla, Jakhu Hill. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and offers a panoramic view of Shimla. Beware of the monkeys on the way to the temple, they tend to snatch things from visitors. In the afternoon, head to Chadwick Falls, located amidst a thick deodar forest, the falls are a popular picnic spot. The falls offer a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills and the water cascading down from a height of 86 meters is a sight to behold. In the evening, head back to the Ridge and enjoy the local food and shopping options in Mall Road.

Other local attractions worth considering are Viceregal Lodge, a colonial mansion with beautiful gardens, and Kufri, a small hill station located a short distance from Shimla. For a side trip, you can visit the Chail Palace, a heritage hotel located in Chail, which is about an hour's drive from Shimla. To maximize your fun, try the adventure activities offered at Kufri such as skiing and hiking. Lastly, don't forget to try the local delicacies such as Channa Madra, Tudkiya Bhath, and Sepu Badi.
