Exploring North India in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Delhi
    30 minutes (9.5 miles) from Indira Gandhi International Airport

    Start your day with a visit to the Red Fort, a historic fortification and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterward, head to the Jama Masjid mosque, one of the largest mosques in India. In the afternoon, explore the narrow lanes and vibrant markets of Chandni Chowk. End your day at India Gate, a war memorial located in the heart of the city.

  2. Day 2: Agra
    4 hours (134 miles) from Delhi

    Get up early and head to the Taj Mahal, an ivory-white marble mausoleum and one of the seven wonders of the world. Spend the rest of your morning exploring Agra Fort, a stunning red sandstone fortress. In the afternoon, visit the Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah, also known as the Baby Taj. End your day with a relaxing stroll through Mehtab Bagh, a beautiful garden complex overlooking the Taj Mahal.

  3. Day 3: Jaipur
    4 hours 30 minutes (170 miles) from Agra

    Start your day at the Amber Fort, a stunning hilltop palace with incredible views of the surrounding landscape. Afterward, visit the City Palace, a beautiful complex of palaces, gardens, and courtyards. In the afternoon, explore the Hawa Mahal, a stunning pink sandstone palace with intricate latticework. End your day at Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory built in the early 18th century.

  4. Day 4: Amritsar
    7 hours (285 miles) from Jaipur

    Spend your morning at the Golden Temple, a stunning gilded temple and the most sacred site in Sikhism. In the afternoon, visit the Jallianwala Bagh memorial, a site of a tragic massacre during India's struggle for independence. End your day at the Wagah border, a ceremonial border crossing between India and Pakistan.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Ranthambore National Park, a wildlife reserve home to tigers, leopards, and other exotic animals. Another great side trip is the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site with ancient rock-cut temples and caves. For a unique experience, take a hot air balloon ride over Jaipur at sunrise or sunset. Finally, make sure to try some of the delicious local cuisine, such as chaat, chole bhature, and sarson ka saag.
