7-Day Itinerary for Spity Valley on a Motorcycle in August 2024

  1. Day 1: Arrival at Shimla
    20 minutes (6.6 miles) from Shimla Airport

    After arriving in Shimla, take some time to rest up and explore the city's charming streets and markets. In the evening, visit the Ridge to catch stunning views of the sunset over the mountains.

  2. Day 2: Rampur and Sarahan

    Head towards Rampur and visit the Padam Palace Museum to learn about the history of the region. Continue to Sarahan and visit the Bhimakali Temple, one of the 51 shakti peeths. End the day with a relaxing stroll through the village.

  3. Day 3: Sangla Valley
    3 hours (63 miles) from Sarahan

    Start the day off early and ride to Sangla Valley, nestled in the Himalayas. Stop for lunch at the picturesque Baspa River and continue to Chitkul, the last village on the Indo-Tibetan border. Return to Sangla for dinner and overnight stay.

  4. Day 4: Kalpa
    2 hours (38 miles) from Sangla Valley

    Make your way to Kalpa and witness the stunning Kinner Kailash peak. Visit the Narayan-Nagini Temple and the Hu-Bu-Lan-Kar Monastery for a spiritual experience. End the day with a walk along the apple orchards.

  5. Day 5: Nako
    4 hours (78 miles) from Kalpa

    Start the day early and ride towards Nako, a high-altitude village known for its serene lake and stunning views. Visit the Nako Monastery and the Nako Lake before retiring for the night.

  6. Day 6: Tabo and Kaza
    5 hours (104 miles) from Nako

    Visit the Tabo Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and marvel at the ancient murals and paintings. Continue to Kaza, the largest town in the Spiti Valley. Visit the Sakya Tangyud Monastery and the Kye Monastery for a spiritual experience.

  7. Day 7: Chandratal Lake
    6 hours (100 miles) from Kaza

    Visit the stunning Chandratal Lake, known for its crystal-clear waters and surrounding peaks. Take a dip in the lake or go for a hike to the nearby hills. Return to Kaza for the night.

Recommendations

While in Spiti Valley, consider taking a detour to the Pin Valley National Park for a chance to see the rare snow leopard in its natural habitat. You may also want to extend your trip and visit the nearby town of Manali, known for its scenic beauty and adventure sports.
