5-Day Cultural Immersion Itinerary for Kedarnath and Tunganath Temple in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Kedarnath

    In the morning, visit the Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Take a dip in the holy Mandakini River and explore the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary in the afternoon. In the evening, attend the Ganga Aarti ceremony at the riverbank.

  2. Day 2: Tunganath Trek
    3 hours (6.2 miles) from Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, start a trek to Tunganath Temple, which is the highest Shiva temple in the world. Along the trek, enjoy the scenic beauty of the Garhwal Himalayas and stop at Chandrashila for an amazing view. In the evening, relax and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in Chopta.

  3. Day 3: Deoria Tal Trek
    1 hour 30 minutes (3.5 miles) from Tunganath Temple

    In the morning, trek to Deoria Tal, a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains and forests. Enjoy trekking through the lush forests of Rhododendron and Oak trees. In the afternoon, visit Guptkashi town and explore the ancient Vishwanath Temple. In the evening, attend the evening aarti at the temple.

  4. Day 4: Chopta Sightseeing
    1 hour 15 minutes (4.3 miles) from Deoria Tal

    In the morning, visit the Tungnath Temple again for stunning sunrise views. After breakfast, explore the beautiful Chopta Valley, which is also known as the "Mini Switzerland of India". Visit the Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary in the afternoon and spot the endangered Musk Deer species. In the evening, take a leisurely walk around the valley and enjoy the serene environment.

  5. Day 5: Depart from Kedarnath
    3 hours (56.2 miles) from Chopta Valley

    In the morning, visit the Ukhimath town and explore the Omkareshwar Temple, which is the winter seat of Kedarnath. After breakfast, depart from Kedarnath and head back to your home destination.

If you have extra time, you can also visit the Triyugi Narayan Temple, which is a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. You can also go for a trek to the stunning Kedartal, a high-altitude lake near Kedarnath. If you want to explore more of the Garhwal Himalayas, you can plan a side trip to Auli, which is a popular skiing destination. To maximize your fun, make sure to carry comfortable trekking shoes, warm clothes, sunscreen, and a raincoat. Don't forget to try the local cuisine, which includes Kumaoni and Garhwali dishes like Bal Mithai, Kandalee Ka Saag, and Arsa.
