Exploring Patna in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahavir Mandir
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Patna Junction Railway Station

    Mahavir Mandir, one of the most famous temples in Patna, is a must-visit for anyone traveling to the city. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is known for its grandeur and spirituality. In the morning, attend the aarti and seek blessings from the deity. Afterward, explore the temple complex and the various shops selling religious and cultural items. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Buddha Smriti Park, a peaceful and beautiful park with landscaped gardens, a museum, and a meditation center. In the evening, head to Kargil Chowk, a popular hangout spot in Patna, to enjoy local street food and some shopping.

  2. Day 2: Golghar
    20 minutes (5.5 km) from Mahavir Mandir

    On your second day, visit Golghar, an iconic landmark in Patna. It is a large granary built by the British in 1786 to store grains during famine situations. Climb to the top of the structure for a panoramic view of the city. Afterward, head to the nearby Patna Museum, which houses a rich collection of artifacts, sculptures, and relics from the Mauryan, Gupta, and Mughal periods. In the afternoon, take a leisurely stroll at the Eco Park, a scenic and serene park with a lake, gardens, and walking trails. In the evening, head to the P&M Mall for some shopping and entertainment.

If you have some extra time, consider visiting the Nalanda University ruins, an ancient Buddhist university about 90 kilometers from Patna. You can also explore the historic city of Bodh Gaya, which is about 115 kilometers from Patna and is famous for the Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To maximize your fun in Patna, try the local cuisine, especially the litti-chokha, a delicacy made of baked gram flour balls and mashed potatoes. Don't forget to take a boat ride on the River Ganges and witness the grandeur of the river. Finally, make sure to interact with the locals and learn about their culture and traditions.
