Rishikesh 4-Day Itinerary - Shoestring Budget in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula
    1.4 km (10 minutes) from Rishikesh Bus Stand

    In the morning, visit the iconic suspension bridges of Rishikesh, Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula. Take a stroll across the bridges while enjoying the scenic views of the Ganges river flowing beneath. Stop by one of the many street vendors to indulge in some local street food. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Parmarth Niketan Ashram, where you can participate in a yoga class or take a dip in the holy Ganges. Spend the evening at the Ganga Aarti ceremony, a spiritual experience where devotees offer prayers to the river.

  2. Day 2: Neer Garh Waterfall and The Beatles Ashram
    8.4 km (25 minutes) from Ram Jhula

    Spend the morning trekking to the stunning Neer Garh Waterfall, a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Take a dip in the refreshing water and relax amidst the serene environment. In the afternoon, visit The Beatles Ashram, also known as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram, where the famous band once stayed and composed music. Take a peaceful stroll amidst the abandoned buildings covered in graffiti art. Spend the evening at one of the nearby cafes, sipping chai and enjoying the sunset.

  3. Day 3: Rajaji National Park and Maya Devi Temple

    Spend the morning exploring the Rajaji National Park, a pristine wildlife reserve home to a variety of flora and fauna. Enjoy a safari ride and spot wild elephants, tigers, and leopards. In the afternoon, visit Maya Devi Temple, one of the oldest temples in Rishikesh, dedicated to the Hindu goddess of illusions. Take a dip in the holy Kund located within the temple complex. Spend the evening at one of the local markets, shopping for souvenirs to take back home.

  4. Day 4: Triveni Ghat and The Char Dham Yatra
    5.3 km (20 minutes) from Maya Devi Temple

    In the morning, visit Triveni Ghat, the confluence of three sacred rivers - Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati. Take a dip in the holy waters and participate in the morning prayers. In the afternoon, take a day trip to the Char Dham Yatra, a pilgrimage to four important Hindu shrines - Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. While the entire pilgrimage takes several days, you can visit the replicas of the shrines located in Rishikesh. Spend the evening at one of the nearby restaurants, relishing some delicious local cuisine.

If you have more time, you can visit the Vashishta Gufa, a famous cave where the sage Vashishta meditated, or the Trimbakeshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. For adventure enthusiasts, Rishikesh offers activities like white water rafting, bungee jumping, and zip-lining. You can also take a day trip to Haridwar, another holy city located near Rishikesh. To maximize your fun, try to experience the local culture by learning some Hindi phrases and interacting with the friendly locals. Rishikesh is a vegetarian town, so make sure to try some of the delicious vegetarian food options available. Lastly, do not forget to carry a water bottle, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes for all the walking and trekking activities.
