5-Day Shoestring Budget Itinerary for Kerala in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kochi
    45 minutes (22.8 km) from Cochin International Airport

    In the morning, visit the Jew Town to explore antique shops and the 16th-century Jewish Synagogue. For lunch, have a traditional Kerala meal at Dal Roti. In the afternoon, visit Fort Kochi's Chinese fishing nets, St.Francis Church, and the Dutch Cemetery. End the day by watching a Kathakali performance.

  2. Day 2: Munnar
    4 hours (130 km) from Kochi

    Start your day early in Munnar with a visit to a tea plantation. After breakfast, visit the Mattupetty Dam and the Kundala Lake. In the afternoon, trek to the Echo Point and the Top Station. End the day with a visit to the Tea Museum.

  3. Day 3: Thekkady
    3 hours 45 minutes (90 km) from Munnar

    In the morning, take a nature walk in the Periyar National Park. After lunch, go for a boat ride on the Periyar Lake. In the evening, attend a Kathakali or a Kalaripayattu show.

  4. Day 4: Alleppey
    4 hours 30 minutes (140 km) from Thekkady

    Start your day by taking a houseboat ride in the backwaters of Alleppey. Have lunch on the houseboat and enjoy the scenic beauty of the backwaters. In the evening, visit the Alleppey Beach and the lighthouse.

  5. Day 5: Kovalam

    Start your morning by visiting the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Trivandrum. After lunch, head to Kovalam Beach and enjoy the sun, sand, and sea. In the evening, visit the Halcyon Castle and the Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave Temple.

You can also consider visiting the Athirapally waterfalls, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, and the backwaters of Kumarakom.
