6-Day Itinerary for Hemkund Sahib in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Rishikesh
    45 minutes (15 miles) from Jolly Grant Airport

    In the morning, explore the charming town of Rishikesh, situated on the banks of the Ganges River. Visit the Triveni Ghat for a spiritual experience.   2. Day 2: Travel to Joshimath
    9 hours (198 miles) from Rishikesh

    Travel to Joshimath, a scenic hill town situated at an altitude of 6,150 feet. Enroute, visit Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Karnaprayag, the confluence points of rivers in the region. In the evening, visit the Narsingh Temple and witness the evening aarti.

  3. Day 3: Reach Govindghat and trek to Ghangaria
    1 hour 30 minutes (20 miles) from Joshimath to Govindghat

    Reach Govindghat and start an 11 km trek to Ghangaria, a scenic village situated at an altitude of 10,000 feet. The trek includes breathtaking views of the mountains and waterfalls. In the evening, relax and unwind at Ghangaria.

  4. Day 4: Trek to Hemkund Sahib
    6 km from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib

    Start an early morning 6 km trek to Hemkund Sahib, one of the most revered Sikh shrines, situated at an altitude of 15,200 feet. The pilgrimage site is surrounded by seven snow-capped mountains and a glacial lake. Spend the day at the shrine and return to Ghangaria in the evening.

  5. Day 5: Explore Valley of Flowers
    5 km from Ghangaria to Valley of Flowers

    Travel 5 km from Ghangaria to the Valley of Flowers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its stunning alpine flowers and diverse fauna. Spend the day exploring the valley and return to Ghangaria in the evening.

  6. Day 6: Return to Rishikesh
    10 hours (271 km) from Ghangaria to Rishikesh

    Return to Rishikesh via the same route. In the evening, indulge in some souvenir shopping and enjoy the local cuisine at one of the cafes in the town.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting Auli, a popular ski destination that offers panoramic views of the Himalayas. You can also take a dip in the hot springs at Tapovan, which is located near the Nandaprayag confluence point. To maximize your fun, make sure to carry comfortable footwear, warm clothes, and a raincoat. Lastly, don't forget to carry sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from the harsh sun.
