3-Day Itinerary for Pondicherry in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Sri Aurobindo Ashram
    10 minutes (2.3 km) from Pondicherry Promenade

    Begin your day with a visit to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community founded by Sri Aurobindo and his disciple Mirra Alfassa. Explore the peaceful atmosphere and learn about their teachings on integral yoga. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Bharathi Park for a picnic lunch. Finish the day with a stroll along the Pondicherry Promenade, a charming seaside promenade where you can catch a stunning sunset.

  2. Day 2: Auroville and Matrimandir
    30 minutes (10 km) from Sri Aurobindo Ashram

    Take a taxi to Auroville, an experimental township founded in 1968 with the vision of creating a universal community. Visit the Matrimandir, a golden dome meditation center and a must-see attraction in Auroville. In the afternoon, explore the lush forest and scenic trails of the Auroville Green Belt. End the day with a delicious vegetarian dinner at one of the many cafes in Auroville.

  3. Day 3: Chunnambar Boat House and Paradise Beach
    20 minutes (8.1 km) from Auroville

    Start your day with a visit to Chunnambar Boat House, where you can rent a boat and take a ride through the serene backwaters of Pondicherry. After the boat ride, head to the nearby Paradise Beach for a relaxing day in the sun. Enjoy swimming, beach volleyball, and other water sports. In the evening, head back to Pondicherry for a scrumptious seafood dinner at one of the many restaurants near the Promenade.

If you have an extra day, consider taking a day trip to Mahabalipuram, an ancient port city famous for its rock-cut temples and monuments. You can also visit the Ousteri Lake, a popular spot for birdwatching and boating. To make the most of your trip, hire a bike or scooter to explore the city.
