Start your day with a visit to the Vatican City, the world's smallest independent state, and home to St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums. Explore the beauty of the Sistine Chapel and marvel at the works of Michelangelo. In the afternoon, head to Trastevere, a charming neighbourhood that offers delicious traditional Roman food and an authentic atmosphere. Take a stroll around the narrow streets and admire the local architecture.
Begin your day by exploring Ancient Rome, which includes the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. In the afternoon, visit the Pantheon, a former Roman temple that is now a church. Admire the impressive architecture and art inside this domed structure.
Start the day at the Spanish Steps, a popular spot known for its stunning views of Rome. Then, head to Piazza Navona, a beautiful square that is home to three stunning fountains and surrounded by restaurants and cafes. End the day with a walk along the Tiber River, enjoying the beautiful Roman sunset.
Most of the attractions can be reached on foot. Public transport tickets cost €1.50 per ride and last for 100 minutes. A single-day pass costs €7 and a three-day pass costs €18. Taxis are available but can be expensive.
If you have more time, add a visit to the Borghese Gallery, exploring the charming neighbourhood of Monti or a cooking class to learn how to make Roman cuisine. With less time, remove some of the attractions that interest you least, or combine attractions that are near each other into one day.
Rome has two airports: Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) is Rome's main airport, located 17 miles southwest of Rome, and Ciampino–G.B. Pastine International Airport (CIA) is located 12 miles southeast of Rome. Both airports are served by taxis, buses and trains, but Fiumicino has more connections to the city and a direct train to Termini Station.
