Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, is a must-visit attraction in Varkerala. The palace was built in 1555 and was gifted to the Raja of Kochi by the Portuguese. It is a blend of Portuguese, Dutch and Kerala architecture and houses a large collection of murals and artefacts. In the morning, explore the palace and admire the intricate murals. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Jew Town and shop for souvenirs such as antique furniture, spices and hand-woven fabrics. In the evening, head to Fort Kochi Beach, which is just a short drive away, and watch the beautiful sunset.
Athirapally Waterfalls is a stunning waterfall located in the Thrissur district of Kerala. In the morning, embark on a scenic drive to the waterfall and enjoy the beautiful views of the Western Ghats. Once you arrive, take a dip in the cool waters and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. In the afternoon, enjoy a picnic lunch by the waterfall. If time permits, visit the nearby Vazhachal Waterfalls. In the evening, head back to Varkerala and enjoy a traditional Kerala dinner at one of the local restaurants.
If you have extra time, consider visiting the backwaters of Kerala and taking a houseboat ride. You can also visit the Chinese Fishing Nets in Kochi or the Paradesi Synagogue in Jew Town. For a side trip, consider visiting Munnar, a hill station known for its tea plantations and beautiful landscapes. To maximize your fun, try some of the local cuisine such as appam and stew, puttu and kadala curry, and banana chips. Don't forget to also visit some of the local markets and shop for spices, fabrics and souvenirs.
